dc.description.abstractApplication of ITC to the process of resource sharing made the consortium online. UGC-Infonet consortium is one of the land mark achievement in the field of higher education in India. It is only the possible solution to the ever growing demand for information and ever decreasing the budget to the universities. UGC-Infonet is the E-consortium; the users can access the scientific and research articles on 7�24 hour basis on their desk top. It provides 5, 000 plus full text journals to the 176 universities in the Xth and XIth planperiod and also planning to cover 6, 000 colleges out of the 17, 000 plus college in the year 2009. INFLIBNET has also the plan to coverthe remaining universities and colleges in a phased manner before the end of the XIth plan. At present it includes 20 full text database, 10 bibliographic and open access databases. These databases covers all most all fields of higher learning i.e Arts, humanities and social sciences, physical and chemical sciences, life sciences computer science, mathematics, statistics. � 2010 IEEE.en_US
